Dying to Know Day - Aug 2025
Australia's Dying to Know Day was created to open and normalise conversations about death, dying, and grief, and provide information around these topics.
At a local Dying to Know Day expo, Chetan Shastri's beautiful wall-hanging was on display. Its purpose is to open meaningful discussions around death, via text prompts and icons, to support better transitions to end of life. Made up of 40 embroidered pieces and 27 symbols, it aims to reclaim a connection to social and cultural ways that are often lost in a medical or hospital setting.
I also chatted to Iain McKinnon, an end-of-life coach and
deathwalker, who gave a really interesting talk about the
Exit International group which was founded by
Dr Philip Nitschke.

Grief Seminar - Aug 2025
Le Pine and White Lady funerals held a seminar on "What you should know about grief". Australian author and speaker Doris Zagdanski spoke about the importance of gaining an understanding of grief and practising strategies around it, that may go against some commonly-held beliefs. She also shared a variety of ways that we can show up and support a grieving friend - persevering even when it's painful or difficult for us.
Over several decades, Doris has written books and created a number of other resources on the topic of grief. They are available via her website.

Critical Info launch - Apr 2025
The Critical Info enterprise is dedicated to end-of-life planning and management. It empowers people to document their wishes, store important personal details, and communicate legacy messages, with the option to utilise text, audio, and video as needed. Catherine Ashton is the founder. She was inspired to establish Critical Info when she experienced the difficulties faced at the sudden death of a friend who hadn't carried out these important activities.
Critical Info also aims to open up the conversation around death, dying and grief. They hold a weekly podcast: "Don't Be Caught Dead".
